Fang, A C, & Cao, J (2015). Text Genres and Registers: The Computation of Linguistic Features. Berlin and Heidelberg: Springer. 267+xiii pages.
This book is motivated by the notion of language as a resource that is contextually parameterised according to situational uses. The contextual parameters are defined by sets of co-selected linguistic features pertaining to lexis and grammar. This book is primarily focused on grammatical features as perhaps the most revealing hallmarks of different genres. The overall approach is fundamentally rooted in corpus linguistics through the use of corpora of authentic samples. The book unveils distinct sets of grammatical features that can be effectively used for the construction of computational models of language use.
